Our services are primarily for Dorchester residents and youth, but we are open to working with any local individuals, children or families. These services help our mentees succeed by building a foundational learning tool in mental stability, physical awareness, education, financial growth and workforce development. SERVICES + EVENTS
EVERY PENNY COUNTS
While shelter residents participate in our workshops, we implement this program in which the youth actively use the tools they are learning to save and budget their money. At the end of the six month program, F.A.M.I.L.Y Movement matches penny-for-penny what they have saved during this time-period to either be deposited into a savings account or towards paying off a debt.
MAKEOVER SESSION
We nominate 10 single mothers twice a year to be made over head to toe in collaboration with local boutiques, salons and businesses donating their goods and services. Along with beauty, this is more importantly an empowerment session of self worth.
A MOTHER'S LOVE
This program acknowledges all of our mothers with a rose from their child or children in honor of Valentine's Day as a symbolization of love!
QUARTERLY CLOTHING DRIVES
Four times per year we host a clothing drive in Dorchester, MA to benefit the community. If you are interested in donating new or gently used clothing, shoes or accessories, please contact us for more information.
MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH
Every year we host a brunch to honor and celebrate the mother's in our shelter. The children put on a special performance and the women can enjoy brunch, vendor tables, raffles, prizes and more.
WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM
Our weight loss program encourages healthy living with our families by implementing a strict health regiment. Each pound lost gains an incentive at the end of the 4-month program. We guide each participant towards making healthy eating choices and incorporating physical activity into their lives.
